Diabetics have a high level of blood glucose. Blood sugar level is regulated by insulin, a hormone secreted by the pancreas, which releases it in response to carbohydrate consumption. Insulin causes the cells of the body to absorb glucose from the blood. The glucose then serves as fuel for cellular functions.
There are 3 different varieties of diabetes.

Type I Diabetes: -

The cause of type I diabetes starts with pancreatic inability to make insulin. This causes 5-10% of cases of diabetes. The pancreatic Islet of Langerhans cells, which secrete the hormone, are destroyed by the patient’s own immune system, probably because it mistakes them for a virus. Viral infections are believed to be the trigger that sets off this auto-immune disease. Type I diabetes is most prevalent in the Caucasian population and has a hereditary component.

Type II Diabetes: -

<a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-2-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 2 Diabetes" >Type 2 Diabetes – accounts for about 90% of all cases of diabetes and usually occurs in adults. The pancreas do not make enough insulin to keep blood glucose levels normal, frequently because the body does not use the insulin produced very well. Symptoms of adult diabetes and <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-2-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 2 Diabetes" >Type 2 diabetes is becoming more common with the increasing number of elderly Americans, with the failure to exercise and increasing obesity rates.

<a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/gestational-diabetes/"title="Articles on Gestational Diabetes" >Gestational Diabetes: -

Gestational diabetes develops only during pregnancy. Like type 2 diabetes, it occurs more often in African Americans, American Indians, Hispanic Americans, and among women with a family history of diabetes. Women who have had gestational diabetes have a 20 to 50 percent chance of developing type 2 diabetes within 5 to 10 years

Here are the most common Type 2 symptoms of adult diabetes:
• Impotence in Men
• Increased Appetite
• Increased Thirst
• Blurred Vision
• Fatigue
• Infections That Heal Slowly
• More Frequent Urination

Natural Home Remedies for Diabetes: -

• Diet and exercise have been recommended by physicians for years as a way to help ward off and even control diabetes. Medical studies have backed this theory up so strongly that one study concluded a year early because of its staggering results.
• Take ten tulsi leaves 23, ten neem leaves and ten belpatras with a glass of water early morning on an empty stomach. It will work wonders in keeping your sugar levels under control. This diabetes remedy is effective and one of the useful home remedies for diabetes.
• Adequate amount of exercises are also necessary for diabetic patient as it burns the unwanted calories and keep glucose in control. So if you want to remain fit with diabetes than make a habit of doing regular exercise.
• The seeds of pars lane are helpful in diabetes. A teaspoon of the seeds should be taken each day with half a cup of water for three to four months. It will raise the body’s own insulin and help in curing diabetes. One of the simple, but effective home remedies for diabetes.
• You can also try this simple and effective home remedy for diabetes. Take sweet potato leaves with ash gourd or with any herbal tea. Mix 4-5 leaves of sweet potato and 1 tablespoon ash gourd in a glass of water and then allow it to boil. Strain the mixture and take this herbal tea anytime of the day. It is effective in curing diabetes.

Basically there are two types of diabetes. Typically <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-2-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 2 Diabetes" >Type 2 diabetes begins to show itself through adulthood and <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-1-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 1 Diabetes" >Type 1 diabetes can happen even during childhood. An additional type of diabetes, which is closely associated to <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-2-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 2 Diabetes" >type 2 diabetes, is known as <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/gestational-diabetes/"title="Articles on Gestational Diabetes" >gestational diabetes. <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-2-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 1 Diabetes" >Type 1 diabetes is also known as <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-2-diabetes/"title="Articles on Juvenile Diabetes" >juvenile diabetes, it can happen when an individuals very own immune system ends up attacking itself. This occurs when the body’s own immune system actually begins to attack and destroy the cells known as beta that an individuals body creates in the pancreas.

Diabetes Overview

The cause of diabetes is when an instability happens in the hormone insulin in an individuals body. For persons who are healthy, the pancreas secretes insulin in the right amounts for the type of food that the person consumes. The primary goal of this infusion of insulin is to assist in putting specific nutrients, particularly glucose, into the cells in the body. The persons system ends up using these nutrients as fuel for everyday tasks in a healthy person.

At this point, the quantity of glucose contained within the blood is decreased since the cells are loaded with nutrients. When this happens, an individuals beta cells will be given notice in the persons pancreas that they have to lessen the quantity of secreted insulin.

The helps keep an individual away from becoming hypoglycemia, which is also referred to as low blood sugar. Nevertheless, within a an individuals body that has type 1 diabetes these beta cells are destroyed. When this event happens, it throws an individuals body into complete disarray. When a person has type 2 or also referred to gestational diabetes, however, the reasons behind it are different.

Type 1 Diabetes

Typically individuals that are impaired with type 1 diabetes find that they have this disease prior to age 20, although it can happen at any age. Even though this type of disease is relatively not as common as some other types of diseases, it does happen to a great amount of individuals. Sadly, no one actually knows the cause of type 1 diabetes, or not the exact cause.

Nevertheless, it is clear that, at a minimum, a basic tendency toward this disease is genetics. It should be noted that there can be environmental causes at work here that make an individual more apt to this disease. It appears to happen when something in the environment, possibly a virus, invokes an individuals immune system to attack their own pancreas to the point where the individual is unable to create insulin in a correct way. This appears to confuse a persons body and is not curable when it ends up as type 1 diabetes.

The signs and symptoms for all the different types of diabetes can have numerous different things. A variety of them are hardly noticeable while others might make living life that is normal very challenging. Some of these signs and symptoms tend to incorporate an increased level of thirst, a higher level of appetite even after a meal is eaten, abdominal pain. unexplained weight loss, nausea, blurred vision, exhaustion, and excessive urination.

<a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-1-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 1 Diabetes" >Type 1 diabetes (also known as juvenile onset or insulin dependent diabetes) develops when the pancreas becomes damaged meaning that your body can no longer produce insulin (the hormone which helps your body convert blood sugar/glucose into energy). It represents approximately 5% to 10% of all diabetes cases and can be fatal if left untreated.

The damage to the pancreas is usually the result of an auto-immune attack, when (for some unknown reason) the body’s immune system starts to attack the insulin producing beta cells of the pancreas. The result is that the pancreas can no longer supply the body with adequate levels of insulin, blood sugar levels become elevated and <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-2-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 1 Diabetes" >type 1 diabetes develops.

Since type 1 diabetes is the result of a rapid attack the symptoms also develop relatively quickly, usually in a matter of days or weeks. Things to look out for include:

- Clouded vision.
- Greater hunger and thirst levels.
- Increased fatigue levels.
- Weight loss.

If you do notice any of the above symptoms then go see your doctor immediately. They will probably recommend you take a Fast Plasma Glucose Test (FPG). For this test you will need to eat nothing in the eight hours before the test. Your doctor will then take a blood sample and if your blood sugar levels are above 126 milligrams per decilitre (mg/dL) you may have diabetes. To confirm whether you do actually have diabetes the test will be performed a second time. If your second reading is above 126 mg/dL then your doctor will diagnose you with diabetes.

If further investigation reveals that you have type 1 diabetes then your doctor will be on hand to help you manage the condition. If you have type 1 diabetes you will require insulin injections since your body can no longer produce the substance itself. You will also need to monitor your blood sugar levels regularly to determine when you require these injections. Your doctor will be able to talk you through the different types of insulin available and the types that are most suitable for you.

Apart from using insulin to treat type 1 diabetes, your doctor is also likely to advise you to make some lifestyle improvements. These will include improvements to your diet (eating a balanced diet, consuming more fruit and vegetables etc) and participating in regular exercise (which can include walking, cycling, participating in team sports etc). Making these changes will further help keep your blood sugar within normal levels.

Having type 1 diabetes means that you are at risk for a number of complications. One such complication is hypoglycaemia (extremely low blood sugar levels). Hypoglycaemia in diabetics usually occurs as a result of; excessive alcohol consumption (alcoholic beverages can inhibit glucose production), injecting too much insulin (insulin is used to lower your blood sugar levels to acceptable levels but too much can induce hypoglycaemia) and eating too little (your body gets glucose from the food you eat so eating too little can cause hypoglycaemia). Symptoms of hypoglycaemia can range from mild (paleness, shaking and sweating) to severe (temporary loss of consciousness and coma). Mild hypoglycaemia can often be treated alone by consuming some fast acting carbohydrates (such as candy, chocolate or glucose tablets). However, for severe hypoglycaemia you will are likely to require medical assistance.

Type 1 diabetes is a life changing condition. However, knowing that you have the condition means that you are in a much better position to manage it. By following the advice of your doctor and the tips listed in this article you can keep the negative symptoms of type 1 diabetes at bay and carry on living your life.

20.8 million people suffer from diabetes in the United States. There are three kinds of diabetes, Type I, Type II and <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/gestational-diabetes/"title="Articles on Gestational Diabetes" >Gestational diabetes. Of the three, Type I affects 175.600 people, that’s .22%, according to the American Diabetes Association. What exactly causes the disease is still unclear. We do know that there are certain factors that can influence whether a person develops the disease.

Those include genetics and the lifestyle choices. Experts know that diabetes has existed since the 19th century, that the pancreas is directly responsible for the production of insulin and that somehow, insulin unlocks the body’s cells to convert glucose into usable energy. Other than that, the disease is greatly individualized. How a person cares for themselves prior to the onset, as well as management of the disease determines what quality of life he or she will experience.

Unlike Type II, Type I diabetes is irreversible. Once diagnosed, Type I carries severe consequences if not cared for properly. Type I diabetes is when the body does not produce insulin anymore. Whether it’s because the pancreas is damaged or the cells that produce insulin have been destroyed, the metabolic processes that occur in healthy individuals aren’t working anymore. It is at this point that the pancreas needs outside help to function. Insulin is the only alternative. Warning signs that you may be in pre-diabetic stages include excessive thirst, excessive hunger, rapid weight loss, fatigue, irritability and mood swings. If you think you may be at risk, your doctor can perform tests to determine your blood sugar level and pancreas function.

Extreme hunger

Rapid weight loss

There are more than 20 different kinds of insulin. They are either manufactured in a lab or derived from animals.

Among the manufactured insulin types, there is synthetic human insulin made from recombinant technology. This is produced by inserting portions of DNA into lab-cultivated yeasts and bacteria. Recombinant insulin tends to act more quickly to reduce blood sugar levels, but with shorter duration than animal derived insulin. Over the past twenty years, synthetic has been replacing pork or beef derived insulin.

Ulralente (Humulin) and Glargine (Lantus) are two long acting synthetic human insulin medications that are ccommonly prescribed for diabetics. Ultralente enters the blood at a slow rate, remaining active for 28 hours. Glargine, injected daily, begins to work to regulate blood sugar levels in just over an hour and lasts up to 24hours. Both are used to treat Type I diabetes.

Once acquired, Type I is life altering. There are many complications that can accompany diabetes if not cared for properly. These can include kidney disease, heart disease, skin and eye complications. Difficulty healing can occur.

So, what is to be done? Nothing precisely can cure this problem. But something that can not be cured must be endured. If you take proper diet, and exercise regularly, you can still live happily, even in the company of diabetes.

There is no cure for diabetes. But if you work with your health care team, eat right and exercise, you can live a great life and stay healthy.

It can be tough to be a kid. Growing pains can come in all shapes and sizes, from sibling rivalries and playground bullies, to growth spurts and acne. But of all the challenges kids face, none are as unforgiving as a severe medical condition.

<a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-2-diabetes/"title="Articles on Juvenile Diabetes" >Juvenile diabetes is a disease that hinders childhood and can also brutally change the shape of adulthood. Even healthy, active kids with juvenile diabetes must face this opponent every day of their lives. Juvenile diabetes can rob kids of their good health as they grow into adults. As a parent, you can take necessary steps today to help raise a healthier kid.

It’s easy to misunderstand and misinterpret the causes and symptoms of juvenile diabetes. Here are some facts that every parent must know:

The Basics

First and foremost, it’s important to realize that your child’s diabetes is not your fault, and you need to make sure that your child does not feel that he or she has brought about the disease. Popular to contrary belief, Type I or “juvenile” diabetes is not caused by childhood obesity or sugar overload. This is a genetic disease.

When kids have juvenile diabetes, the body creates an autoimmune response to pancreatic antigens, and these proteins will break down. The pancreas is responsible for delivering the insulin that breaks down glucose and converting the glucose into energy. Approximately 1.4 million people suffer from this form of diabetes in the United States alone.

Symptoms and Effects

Juvenile diabetes can cause a long list of medical problems including foot ulcers, digestive problems, possible kidney failure, difficulties with eyesight and even blindness. The symptoms of juvenile diabetes include blurred vision, excessive thirst, frequent urination, weight loss, extreme fatigue or lethargy, and a numbing or tingling sensation in the hands and feet. Should your child begin to experience one or more of these symptoms, make an appointment to see your physician immediately.

Treatment

There is no way to prevent the cause of juvenile diabetes, but there are treatment methods available to help to control the disease and reduce your child’s discomfort. If your child is diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, your first step is to find a diabetes clinic in your area. Insist on a doctor’s referral to see a physician specializing in juvenile diabetes. Your child’s specialist will prescribe insulin and speak to you about diet and exercise requirements. You’ll learn how to monitor your child’s glucose levels on a regular basis.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the medications are administered properly, and that your child eats the right types of food. You also need to be sure that your child stays healthy and active, as exercise will help to stave off any complications from this illness.

As a parent, of course you want to protect your child from harm and suffering. Unfortunately, there are some things are just out of our control. Juvenile diabetes is a genetic disease that cannot be prevented, but you can take some precautions.

See your doctor if you are concerned that your child may have juvenile diabetes. If anyone in your family has a history of diabetes, make sure that you know how to spot all of the signs and symptoms.

Parents need to take steps to keep our children healthy. If your child has juvenile diabetes, make sure that he or she gets plenty of exercise and make smart food choices. It’s the best way to ensure the healthy, carefree lifestyle that your child deserves.

Childhood diabetes is a relatively common condition affecting young people the world over. While this disease should be treated as serious, there have been great advances in medical treatments to help young diabetics lead more normal, comfortable lives.

It’s estimated that 30,000 Americans are diagnosed with diabetes each year. On average, 13,000 of these new cases are children. That’s about 36 children diagnosed every day.

Kids With Type I Childhood Diabetes

Most diabetic children have Type I diabetes. Also known as “juvenile” or “childhood diabetes”, this is a condition present at birth, in which the body does not produce insulin. Many people born with childhood diabetes are not diagnosed until their pre-or-early teens. Those born with the condition, including children, need to learn the proper treatment methods.

Know the Warning Signs

Without warning, a diabetic attack can happen. Attacks come on suddenly, sometimes before the child has even been diagnosed. As you can imagine, this can be a terrifying episode for parents. That’s why every parent must recognize the warning signs. These attacks can have long-lasting consequences without treatment, and may be even be fatal.

Signs and symptoms of diabetes may include extreme thirst, frequent urination, increased appetite or weight loss, sleepiness, labored breathing, sudden changes in vision or a fruity smell to the breath. Knowing the warning signs can save a life.

Childhood diabetes can be easy mistaken as other illnesses. Get immediate care if you notice that your child shows one or more of these symptoms. Insist that your doctor test your son or daughter for diabetes.

The failure to diagnose childhood diabetes can result in terrible consequences. Of course, unless the condition runs in your family, you may not automatically identify the importance of knowing all the symptoms. Thirst, frequent urination,, and blood glucose levels are the three main symptoms of childhood diabetes to keep in mind at all times.

If your child seems unusually thirsty, makes frequent trips to the bathroom, or shows both of these signs, then his or her blood sugar may be high. A child that appears to be overly sleepy or lethargic, feels “clammy” or just doesn’t seem right may benefit from a visit to the doctor for a simple blood or urine test.

Your family doctor or pediatrician may evaluate your child for other conditions as well, but it’s important to rule out the possibility of childhood diabetes. If the condition goes undiagnosed and an attack occurs, you will be faced with sorting things out in an emergency situation.

Childhood Diabetes Health Risks

A long list of potential health problems is brought to light when a child is diagnosed with diabetes. Low blood sugar levels may cause your child to suffer with vision problems, kidney and liver complications and the risk of heart attack and stroke.

On the other hand, persistent high blood sugar levels can increase the possibility of infection (like an abscessed tooth or yeast infection), wounds that won’t heal, gangrene from infected wounds and a host of other ailments. There may be nerve damage to the feet or other extremities. The result is intense pain and irreversible damage.

Childhood diabetes forces kids to deal with some very grown-up concerns. Ask you doctor to perform a blood screening to ensure early detection. If diagnosed, work with your child and follow the treatment instructions carefully. It’s the best way to ensure that your child leads the happy and healthy life that he or she deserves.

<a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-1-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 1 Diabetes" >Type 1 diabetes, also known as Insulin-dependent <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/diabetes/"title="Articles on Diabetes" >diabetes mellitus (IDDM), occurs because of a shortage of insulin inside the body. Insulin is responsible for allowing glucose to enter the cells of the body to supply fuel. This shortage of insulin happens because the body’s immune system damages and destroys the pancreas which produces the insulin.

The best medication to treat <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-2-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 1 Diabetes" >type 1 diabetes is insulin, and there are a number of different types of insulin in the market today. Since insulin can’t be consumed through the mouth, those suffering from this disease have to take insulin injections every day and monitor their blood sugar levels on a consistent basis. Why can’t it be taken through the mouth? This is because when taken through the mouth, the digestive juices and enzymes inside the mouth destroy and kill it. Apart from type 1 diabetes, a lack of insulin is also known to cause other metabolic problems.

When our beta cells stop pumping out insulin, our bodies take in less glucose. When this happens, our liver does the exact opposite by releasing more glucose. This leads to an increase in blood sugar levels to as high as ten times above the normal level.

Type 1 diabetes symptoms generally develop over a short period of time. Type 1 diabetes symptoms manifest themselves in the form of excessive fatigue, frequent urination, mood swings, excessive thirst, and feeling hungrier than one normally would.

In children, there is the possibility that different children might have different type 1 diabetes symptoms, which may look very similar to flu symptoms.

Even though destruction to the beta cells begin a few years earlier, symptoms of type 1 diabetes normally cultivate within a very short period of time, ranging from just a few days to a few weeks. This is due to an increase in the blood sugar level in a person’s body.

Other type 1 diabetes symptoms can include weight loss and blurry vision. These symptoms are due to the lack of insulin in the body. Because there is no insulin being produced, type 1 diabetes symptoms develop and worsen very rapidly with sufferers quickly falling into a diabetic coma if the illness is not diagnosed and treated properly.

If you or your family member have these type 1 diabetes symptoms, you must make sure to drink fifteen grams of carbohydrate (three teaspoons of sugar dissolved in water).

Do not take these symptoms lightly. Remember if you ignore them, your type 1 diabetes condition will get worse and eventually lead to other more fatal health problems. These type 1 diabetes symptoms are typically life-threatening, so it is best to seek treatment immediately.

<a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-1-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 1 Diabetes" >Type 1 diabetes is typically diagnosed in childhood but can be found in older patients to age 40. The body makes little if any insulin, and daily injections of it are needed to avoid death. Lacking insulin, the blood glucose levels rise which can cause some of the more common symptoms of hyperglycemia. What causes type 1 is not completely known but lifestyle and genetics are known keys. When the disease occurs a <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-2-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 1 Diabetes" >type 1 diabetes self management program becomes necessary.

Millions of people suffer from the disease and they are all susceptible to the complications that come with it. Cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, vision problems, nerve damage, foot and skin problems and depression are a few of the major complications associated with it. Because of the seriousness of these complications a diabetes self management program is mandatory for people who are give a type 1 diagnosis.

Symptoms of type 1 diabetes include: excessive thirst, frequent urination, weight loss, excessive hunger, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue and absence of menstruation.

For those with type 1 diabetes seeking help with their diabetes self management plan, educational programs have been developed to aid patients in this endeavor. Dietitians and certified diabetes educators who are experts in diabetes management, staff the best of these programs. Topics like blood sugar control, tracking carbohydrate intake, exercise and diet recommendations and insulin self-injection are covered. These healthcare professionals put together a regimen of diabetes self management that is suited to their particular requirements. When these plans are followed closely, patients tend to have fewer complications and they feel better too. Patients are typically sent to them by way of physician referral.

Patients who follow a certain routine in their lives tend to adapt to a type 1 diabetes self management plan better than those who do not. Those with hectic and constantly changing routines have a more difficult adjustment.

Insulin self-injection is a skill that must be learned when undertaking diabetes self management. Many patients however prefer using an insulin pump that is worn around the waist. About the size of a pager, this device which is connected to a catheter implanted under the skin and injects insulin as needed in small doses. This often feels more natural to the patient and the pump is simply detached when needed for activities like taking a shower or swimming. And when blood sugar levels change it’s easy to adjust the dose.

It is of utmost importance that pregnant women who have have diabetes keep their blood sugar in check. While everyone coping with the disease should see improvements in the way they feel, proper diabetes self management is especially necessary for pregnant women because failure to control their blood sugar increases the chances that their baby could have an abnormality.

Developing a good type 1 diabetes self management plan requires becoming educated about the disease in general, understanding what the complications are, and learning the skills necessary to take care of yourself. Remember, diabetes if treated early and properly is manageable.

Daily diabetes self management is critical for those with diabetes and John Richmond who writes for YourDiabetesInfo.com has done extensive research on the topic.

Initially, <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-1-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 1 Diabetes" >Type 1 diabetes symptoms may not signal danger. And, sometimes they appear quickly and threatening. Once started, they can progress rapidly over a span of weeks or a few months, and if action is take promptly they are usually diagnosed promptly. The most common <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-2-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 1 Diabetes" >type 1 diabetes symptoms seen are:

Excessive thirst. This is a very common symptom of type 1 diabetes. Other symptoms (dehydration caused by excessive urination) makes the patient feel thirsty all the time.

Frequent urination, while a symptom of type 1 is also a sign of many other medical conditions such as urinary tract, bladder, and prostate conditions to name a few.

Extreme hunger. Hunger that is not satisfied even after consuming a large meal because, without insulin, the glucose produced from carbohydrates in your food never reaches your body’s energy-starved tissues.

Weight loss. Even though a patient is eating more they are losing weight, perhaps rapidly. This happens because the body loses fat and muscle muscle when attempting to supply fuel to the body’s cells.

Extreme fatigue. This type 1 diabetes symptom occurs because the cells aren’t getting a sufficient supply of sugar .

Your vision may become blurry if you have excessive blood sugar. The lenses of your eyes can become deprived of fluid and focusing becomes difficult.

Nausea and vomiting: High blood sugar causes this type 1 diabetes symptom.

Type I Diabetes is no longer considered as juvenile-onset, childhood or <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-2-diabetes/"title="Articles on Juvenile Diabetes" >juvenile diabetes as it once was. Be sure to consult your doctor if you’re concerned about diabetes or if you notice any type 1 diabetes symptoms.

Being aware of type 1 diabetes symptoms is very important and John Richmond has written several articles about diabetes and writes for YourDiabetesInfo.com.

Nothing can throw you into a tailspin as fast as finding out that your child has a chronic disease like <a href="http://www.diabetic-articles.com/category/type-1-diabetes/"title="Articles on Type 1 Diabetes" >Type 1 diabetes. As a parent, you may go through the whole gamut of emotions from angry to fearful to confused to depressed.

You find yourself full of questions about the future life of your child. How do I tell my child that he/she has this disease? What do I tell the school, friends, or family? Can my child still have a normal life? Keep in mind that all of these questions are normal and it is up to you to learn how to cope.

After the diagnosis, you find that you are thrust into a world of injections, testing blood sugars, and changing eating patterns. How do you deal with all of this? Being overwhelmed with questions is normal and it is a good idea for you to connect with other parents who have been where you are.

There are many support groups for parents and children that you can join to help you find answers. By sharing your own experiences and learning from others, you will find that some of your anxiety will start to dissipate.

A great part of joining a support group or organization is that you can learn more about dealing with diabetes by encouraging others, learn ways to deal with the diabetes of your child, and you can trade sugar-free recipes. If you cannot find a support group in your town, then look on the Internet for an online support group.

A diabetes diagnosis requires increased attention to your family health care by you and your doctor. Learning all that is possible about diabetes will help you to take an active role in the care of your child. You will know what questions to ask and will understand better what the doctor tells you. Your physician and your family needs to work together to control this disease.

It is important to talk to the teachers and administrators so that you will be aware of any special issues that your child may encounter at school. It will fall on them to watch what your child eats and to monitor what snacks are brought in.

The shock of a diabetes diagnosis will take a while to completely understand. It will be a time full of different emotions and it is the time that your family needs to come together for the best interest of your child.

It is possible for your child to live a more normal life with diabetes. There are many sugar substitutes, sugar-free recipes, and sugar-free candy varieties that will give your child the sweets that they want, but keep them healthy. Eating meals that are healthy and well balanced will help keep the blood sugar levels of your child under control. Adding exercise to the mix will help both your child and your family, especially if you make it fun.

You child may need to use manufactured insulin to keep their blood glucose levels under control. This works differently for each person and your physician may have to do some experimenting to find the right combination and dosage of insulin for your child. You will probably have to give the injections, so it is important that you learn as much as possible about insulin and its purposes and injection methods.

You may want to purchase a good diabetes dictionary because it will help you with the medical talk that is common with a diabetes diagnosis. Learning more about the diabetes related terms will help you to become more knowledgeable so that you can take care of your child.

You can find many useful websites that are full of information about diabetes and coping with the disease, whether you are a child, parent, or teenager. Connecting with others who are going through diabetes will help take some of the stigma out of the diagnosis and you will be able to learn more about it. Learning is the key to coping with diabetes.

The incidence of diabetes is on the rise. Learn more about diabetes treatment on this site here at http://www.diabetes-treatment-research-hub.com.
